According to Tuttomercato, Josep Martinez is ready to take over the position left by Sommer and become Inter Milan's new starting goalkeeper.
"I've always been thinking about being prepared."
Martinez didn't hide the difficulty of consistently trailing Sommer: "When not playing, mentality is very important. I've always just been focused on preparing myself and waiting for the right opportunity." Speaking about last season, he added, "Then some things happened off the field that prevented me from training as I wanted. Players have to stay focused to perform at their best. Fortunately, I can let go of everything now."

The goalkeeper also recounted the serious incident he experienced: "My teammates, family, and friends gave me all the support a professional player needs. I also sought help from professionals. It's normal to feel terrible when you encounter such a tragedy. That period was very difficult, but as time went by, I slowly recovered."

The competition from Ivan Provedl didn't worry him: "He's a very good person, very humble, and tries to put pressure on me. But am I a starter now? That's not for me to answer. The pitch will provide the answer." Martinez is ambitious for the future: "We won't give up anything. We must maintain our ambition on every front and want to go all the way again."
