According to ESPN, Liverpool's US tour revealed that Iraola's squad still needs strengthening, and time to prepare for the 2026-27 season is running out.
At the Liverpool luxury preseason hotel in downtown Chicago, new manager Andoni Iraola sipped coffee while outlining the immediate challenges he faces at Anfield.
He explained, "You have to improve the team. You have to find the best position for each player, find the best teamwork, and that's what we're doing now."
The 44-year-old manager addressed these issues with several reporters, including those from ESPN, on the first day of Liverpool's pre-season tour in the United States. Over the past two weeks, Iraola has been trying to advance these efforts by scouting the squad in pre-season friendlies in Nashville, New York, and Chicago. However, with less than a month until his official Premier League match against Newcastle United, time is clearly not on his side.
However, the past few weeks have further exposed Liverpool's urgent need for reinforcements and the heavy burden on Iraola and the coaching staff. As time goes by, the Reds, as Iraola said, have lost the opportunity to put themselves back in the Premier League title race, having easily handed the title to Arsenal last season.
