Polo talks about his upbringing: His family made many sacrifices; his grandfather encouraged him to pursue his dreams.

Pedro Porro, the 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur full-back who helped Spain win the World Cup this summer, revealed in an interview that his family made many sacrifices to allow him to continue pursuing his dream of becoming a footballer before he reached the top level.

In an interview with ABC, Polo recalled his early experiences: "I had a very difficult childhood, mainly because of financial problems. My family's financial situation was not good. We suffered a lot financially."

His parents' work situation meant that his grandparents played a key role during his childhood. While his parents were at work, his grandparents were responsible for taking care of him and accompanying him in his daily life: "My mother worked in Mercadona, and my father took on any job he could find, so I had to live with my grandparents."

Polo remembers those early mornings when his mother had to leave for work before dawn, leaving him to stay at his grandparents' house: "When my mother went to work at 3, 4 or 5 in the morning, she would send me to my grandparents' house." As a child, he didn't fully understand all of this: "I often cried, crying that I wanted to leave and be with my grandparents, and to be honest, she understood that."

Over the years, Polo has come to understand more and more the efforts his family made to help him achieve his dream, especially his grandfather. When his parents couldn't be with him, his grandfather would often take him to training and matches: "I'm really very lucky because my grandfather has always been able to take me to play football and help me achieve my dream."

One of his most unforgettable memories is the extra effort his family made to accompany him to the competition: "We were playing in Alcobendas at around 10 a.m., there was no other way. I will never forget it. After the match, when we won, I contacted my family, and they told me that they had stayed there for 5 hours longer than me, sleeping directly in the car."

When Polo went to Madrid to join Rayo Vallecano's youth academy, he also had to adapt to life away from his familiar environment and balance football and studies in different ways: "To achieve your dream, some things must be sacrificed. I don't really love studying; my heart is only in football, I'm even a bit obsessed with it."

Now, 26 years later, Polo still remembers those who accompanied him along the way. He knows that his achievements are due to the contributions of his family, especially his grandfather: "I will do my best to repay him for everything he did back then in the best way possible."
